Do you remember when Satan dared Jesus to jump from the roof of the temple, forcing God to save him? (Matthew 4:6-7) Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 6:16 when he replied, "Do not put the Lord your God to the test." It is not holy to test God; it is sinful and faithless. However, and this is a big however, there is one and only one place in the Bible that God invites us to test him.
"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it." Malachi 3:10
God knew that we would find ourselves in impossible financial situations. He knew that when he asked us to give the first ten percent of all our income we would reply, "I can't afford to give that much money, let alone pay you before the mortgage company." Well, the truth is that God not only promises to provide for us, but he takes it a step further by promising that he will flood our lives with all kinds of blessings, including financial blessings. All we have to do is trust him enough to take action.
Not convinced? Check out this passage from Proverbs:
"Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine." Proverbs 3:9-10
As surely as a penny falls to the ground because of the Law of Gravity, giving will bless our lives spiritually and financially because of God's Law of Giving.
"Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." Luke 6:38
"One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty." Proverbs 11:24
